I've Been Thinking....

Yes, I know it's dangerous when I start to think. I try not to do it too often, but occasionally, it just happens. First things first, I have a confession to make. I think everyone that knows me knows that I love to read just about anything, but here's the embarrassing part: I like to read romance novels. Obviously not for the fabulous writing, but because it allows me to escape to a kind of mind-numbing place where I don't have to think too hard (I know, its that thinking thing again!). An old favorite author is Jude Deveraux. I was at the library the other day, checking out some books for Russ and the kids, when I came across this book of hers that I haven't read, so I put it in my bag of books. I read it the other night, couldn't put it down, and couldn't sleep after I read it, and not for the reasons you MIGHT be thinking, but because the wheels in my mind were turning. (I could smell smoke at one point!)
A brief synopsis of the book is as follows: Three friends, who haven't seen each other for 17 years, spend a weekend together at a summerhouse. They meet a woman who is a type of fortune teller. She gives each of the three women the chance to go back to a point in their life and spend three weeks there, making any changes they desire. At the end of the three weeks, they meet with the woman again. They have to make the decision to keep their life as it was or keep their life as they changed it.
This is where the thinking part came in. What would I change in my life? What one time in my life would I go back to? As I lay in bed not sleeping, I came to a wonderous conclusion. Even though I have made poor choices at times in my life, each choice brought me to where I am now, so I would not change anything in my life. Which must mean I am happy, right!?! Being reminded of that this month--which is usually a dreary, depressing, bleak, cold month--has improved my attitude. And that is a great thing.

  1. I secretly read a lot of romance in between my actual reading :-)
Mine usually have a half naked man in a kilt on the front though. Shh..don't tell!
That book sounds really interesting I might have to pick it up!
